Hi, any success with IUI? Our insurance does not cover IVF.

We did, but it took 6 tries using frozen, donor sperm.

we are currently TTC with IUI. Our insurance covers 6 (not sure what they'll cover if that doesn't work; we are not planning to do IVF). However, we found that the actual cost of IUI is quite low (under $300/cycle) and the real cost is the sperm, which is not covered. So we're still paying a lot out of pocket each cycle. I hope it works soon for all of us!

I have several friends who have had success with IUI after 1-3 rounds. Others took 11 or 12. My partner and I both needed IVF after trying 9-11 IUI rounds.

The cost can range from $200-$1200 per procedure, not including meds or sperm. If you are unsuccessful after six rounds you will often try meds: clomid then injectibles.

Cheapest are regular OB/gyn most expensive are REs like shady grove or Columbia Fertility.

Plan on spending a minimum of 10K or a maximum of 40K or higher, including sperm.

We spent $70K conceiving our two kids, but we had bad luck. Also spent quite a bit before doing shared risk each time.

Good luck!

Unmedicated, unmonitored IUI worked for us on the 3rd try. Insurance covered half of the $300 per try. If you don't have reason to suspect fertility problems (other than severe male factor infertility, harhar), IUI is likely to work. Most of the poor odds out there for IUIs are based on heterosexual couples who have been trying on their own without success. Fingers crossed for all of you who are trying!

When using frozen sperm, your timing needs to be right on. Frozen sperm does not live as long as live. The egg needs to be there waiting. Monitoring is helpful for this aspect.

I finally got pregnant (6 IUIs) when we did an IUI very close in timing to the trigger shot, rather than waiting the 36-40 hours recommended by most REs and the drug itself.

It's great you have insurance! Each try without cost about $1000 for monitoring and the IUI. Sperm for each IUI costs another $600-900+ give or take (sperm, storage, shipping, etc.). Add another $100-1,000 for meds. These numbers vary, depending on where you go, how much monitoring you need, if your sperm is washed or raw, thaw costs, and, of course, medications.

Good luck! It's possible!
