Transitioning to Assisted Living

DH's grandmother lives out of state in a large CCRC. She loves it there and has been doing well in independent living until recently. We're getting the idea that she would do better to transition to assisted living, and that she is amenable to the idea. Does anyone have experience with a parent making this kind of transition? I'm most concerned about how the fee structure changes. I can't seem to find any good information online, and grandmother is barely affording her living situation presently. Any experience or advice would be most appreciated!
