Reimbursement for a stolen package? Experience with AMEX purchase protection?

Anonymous
Has anyone had any luck getting coverage for a stolen package? UPS left it at our doorstep and the >$1k laptop was stolen within 15 mins. UPS and Newegg claim they aren't responsible since the package was delivered. Trusted google stores won't do anything since it was stolen. Remaining options are renter's insurance and AMEX purchase protection. I am trying to avoid using our renter's insurance since it is a $1k deductible.

Bottom line - has anyone had a good experience with AMEX? I'm afraid they are going to make me go through our renter's insurance first (which after the deductible will cover about $200.)

What kind of company ships expensive equipment like that without requiring a signature?

Newegg. That was my first complaint. I was shocked they didn't require a signature.

Amex is amazing with their purchase protection. I've only used it once. A few years ago.

I bought a brand new tablet. It was about $500. I got it, was playing with it and dropped it on the stone floor the first day.

I called Amex, told them it was 100% my fault, I dropped and destroyed the thing. They said to trash it and I had a 100% refund on my card the next day.

This was an Amex Platinum. I don't know if other cards are different.
