I was planning on making a cake for DS' first birthday tomorrow but I'm sick and swamped at work. Any recommendations in the Tysons/McLean/Vienna area where I can order a cake at the last minute?

Call your local Safeway - they may be able to help you out. I've bought two sheet cakes and a ton of cupcakes from my local Safeways (one in Pan Am shopping center, one in Arlington) and been happy with them. The cake and frosting are both good.
Worst case, they usually have a few pre-decorated sheet cakes on hand that are generic. Giant usually does too. You could also call Amphora for something fancier. Their cakes are delicious. |
I second Safeway. You're options are limited to very nice family/friends who will make something for you and grocery stores at this stage of the game.
It's a first birthday, so your kid has no expectations. You can always buy a cake and write on it yourself with a tube of prefab frosting.

Giant or Safeway but call NOW
Fluffy thoughts may have an extra cake on hand or could make one tmw morning.
Costco also has good cakes on hand. I actually like their cakes.
Wegmans has the best cakes of any grocery store, hans down. Not sure if you're willing to drive to Fairfax to pick it up but that's what I'd do (I'm in Arlington).
Wegmans has cute little mini cakes - like a 4inch or something in the bakery case that would make great smash cakes!
Heidelberg
Costco or Wegs.
Carvel ice cream cake at safeway, harris teeter, etc

Awesome ideas! I'm sending DH to Wegmans.
