There are two exact homes, one in McLean VA and one in 22046 zoned for McLean with haycock elementary (not timberlane so the elementary are the same quality).
The schools are equal, is there a premium for being in McLean? If I buy in 22046/22043 McLean high zone can I say I live in McLean? |
| Well, aren't they Falls Church? Why would you say McLean when it is Falls Church? That seems confusing. |
| You can't say you live in McLean if you want to be perfectly truthful. Look at the mailing label. Whatever it says, that's where you live. |
No. Buy in McLean if you want to live in McLean. It's not North Bethesda, either!

+1 such a weird question |
There is a certain reputation with McLean, it's the pinnacle area in Virginia. I assume that's what OP is looking for. |
This house must be near the arson house.

Such an odd question. Do you want people to think you live in McLean? Like you consider it a prestigious thing. I live in Falls church my kids schools are in the Mclean pyramid. Honesty is bes,t really. Plus if you move in the house your talking about your neighbors are good people who do not care about prestige. |

Thanks for the responses, it seems like there is a premium for McLean and the home should be priced lower. I guess this is what people call "FakeClean"
From my analysis a new home in real McLean runs 1.5 or higher and FakeClean runs 1.3 and higher. |
| And as someone who's living in a brand new house in 20043, I thank dearly for this perceived premium that keeps my assessment and r.e.taxes /somewhat/ lower. |
| oops... "22043" |
I think its not just the premium for "McLean" but a premium for the schools in both areas you describe. |
Fake Clean is a new one. Have to say I have never heard it but very witty of you. |
If it truly mattered to you, you could say you live in the "McLean part of Falls Church," since you're likely talking about an area that feeds into McLean HS and is also part of the special tax assessment district that funds the McLean Community Center. But, at least in school circles, it doesn't matter to anyone and you'd seem silly. Longfellow/McLean have neighborhoods with McLean, Falls Church and Vienna mailing addresses. Most of the super-luxe parts of McLean go to Cooper/Langley anyway. |
| There is a real premium for real estate pricing and the unlikely but possible fear that the FC part might get rezoned out of Mclean High. I personally think the premium should be the other way around because the 22043 part is closer to WFC metro. I live in the 22043 area that feeds into Mclean and enjoy the lower tax assessments and purchase price. But I gotta say my place hasn't appreciated as much ad the 22101 zones. So maybe realtors can give more insight as to why this premium continues. It can't all be explained by being able to say I live in Mclean v FC. |
