period with no OPK positive?

Anonymous
I just started TTC and I got my period this month. I used OPK every day and never got a + for ovulation, but then I got my period. How is this possible. I am using the CVS store brand.

It's normal to have an annovulatory cycle every now and then. Another possibility is that your test kits were bad. Try again next month with a different brand of test, and also note your cervical position and mucus. If you don't have ovulation signs, see your gyn asap.

another possibility is that you ovulated but either didn't use the tests properly (holding your pee for at least 4 hours for example) or your LH levels just don't get high enough to show a positive but you still ovulate. i used OPK's for three months before i added temping (which i was avoiding because it's annoying), but i wish i had done the temping sooner to confirm ovulation (or lack thereof).

an annovulatory cycle is also a possibility, of course. i was certain that i was having one of those becuase i was using OPK's and temping and the OPK came out positive but there was no change in temperature. i ended up ovulating (and getting pregnant) later in the cycle.

It's entirely possible you didn't ovulate this cycle.

Ditto what pp said about adding temping. It's really the only way to know for sure if you have ovulated. You can get positive OPKs when having an LH surge but that doesn't mean you actually ovulate. I found the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility to be helpful, it also discusses other signs of ovulation.

I used wondfo tests from amazon, they are very cheap so I could use them twice a day if I felt the need. I think they are supposed to be most accurate in late morning/early afternoon after holding it for 4 hours. That was always difficult for me to do, so I would do one first in thing in the morning and use another test later in the day if the first looked like it was getting closer to positive.
