I can't see to find this info on the website: how many students enter in 9th grade? how many students in the graduating class?
Thanks! |
| 30-35 in 9th and graduating class of 115ish |
| I thought more than 35 enter in 9th, pushing the graduating class to 125 or so. |
| That must be more recent. My info is a few years old. |
| OP here -- thanks for your responses. FWIW, I've also heard that the # of students entering in 9th is higher, but am trying to confirm that. |
| The number is higher--around 50. |
| Per the material I received a the open house, there are 600 kids in the high school so 125 per grade. Does anyone know how many are in 8th? |
| There are 500 students in the high school - approximately 125 students per grade. There are roughly 50 new students added in 9th grade; a 40% increase. |
| It is the largest 9th grade entry for a school that is not only a high school in the area I believe. This means lots of spots for applying students, and also the entering 9th graders are such a large group that these new kids don't feel like they stick out in any way, in comparison with some of the other highly academic schools in the area such as Sidwell/Cathedral Schools/Maret that have much smaller numbers (and proportions of the class) coming in for 9th grade. |
Are class sizes expected to stay the same under the plan to locate all of the school divisions on the Wisconsin Ave. campus? |
| GDS parent with a current 9th grader. I think there are under 50 new students in the freshman class this year. The numbers will vary slightly year to year. The large number of new students and the shift from the Palisades lower/middle school campus to Tenleytown makes it easier for new students to blend in since everyone is transitioning to new surroundings. Plus, the school is big enough to have a niche for every kind of teen. |
Depends on what the ANC thinks.... |
The zoning order will ultimately set the number of students when the school goes through the review process, but is it GDS' intention to grow enrollment assuming space permits? |

The 45-50 number has been the case for many years, well before the new property was on the radar - which leads me to believe that 5:35's info about the increased # of students entering ninth grade is incorrect. The goal of 50 is not higher for the coming year than it has been for many years. That is one thing that attracted us to the school; We wanted a larger HS for our child.
I'm looking at the directory from three years ago, the oldest one I still have. (I knew there would be a reason to keep the 2011-12 directory!) At the time, the 8th grade class had 76, and the 9th grade class had 127. |
I think that's 150 per grade. |
