| My husband and I are hoping to rent a condo on a beach for a week this summer, likely in July. My daughter will be almost four then. I'm wondering for those who have done this before, what locations would you recommend? We are considering Rehoboth and Bethany, as well as the Outer Banks in NC. But we are open to suggestions. Ideally, we'd like a place where we can walk to the beach and be in proximity to shops/restaurants. We don't need a big place--ideally we'd like two bedrooms, but it will just be the three of us. Thanks for any suggestions you may have. |
| Rehoboth has the walkability you'd like, and Funland is great for that age. |
| +1 for Rehoboth. We did this annually from 1.5 to early teens. Many happy memories! |
| I like Rehoboth because it has some nice restaurants and boutiques, the Dogfish Brewery, and the north part of town is quiet. Many people choose Bethany because it is family friendly, also has a few good restaurants and if you can stay at the Sea Colony and use their pools. We found the Outer Banks to be more affordable for rentals, you can get a good deal on something with a pool membership (maybe near the spa at Koru?) especially if you head south towards Avon. Nags Head has a better selection of places to eat and shop, but neither is very walkable. Duck/Corolla is nice. Check out the Croatian Club, Sanderling Resort, Nags Head Village, Barrier Island Station... |
| Cape charles is utterly perfect for that age. Clean and not crowded beach and water that is warm and shallow enough for little ones for a good way out. |
| Hilton Head, water is nicer than DE shore. Stay in Sea Pines or someplace near or on the beach. Plenty to do, nice restaurants, great choice of accommodations. |
This looks like it's on the bay. What about the jellyfish? |
| Wild dunes in South Carolina. |
| We also like Rehoboth for reasons the PP states -- lots of shops/family friendly restaurants, a nice sized (but not huge) boardwalk, a close drive too. And my 4 year old loves Funland, which is a small amusement park right on the boardwalk. |
| Like HH much better tha OBX and the Delaware beaches. The beach is much, much better with great tidal pools for little kids. |

I think the Outer Banks are over rated.
The beach itself is much less crowded so if youre looking for lots of space on the sand then the Outer Banks mights suit you. For everything else beach like, we like Rehoboth. |
We love the outer banks for four year olds. |
| We use chincoteagueresort.com - they have a good selection of family friendly houses like the Assateague Overlook and Channel Lookout which look out towards the channel and the town playground at Memorial Park. Visit Mueller's for ice cream and do a pony ride! But bring bug spray. |

If you end up moving around or go down near Cape Charles
and Onancock, this place is good for an overnight & a daytrip to the barrier sand bar: http://www.wachapreagueinn.com/ |
