Ideas for at-home exercise for small spaces

Anonymous
I'm interested in hearing for ideas on how I can exercise inside my home while by child naps. I unfortunately don't have the space for a treadmill. Thank you!

Well, depending on what you want to do and where your child sleeps, you have a lot of options.

Good old-fashioned sit-ups, crunches, and push-ups don't take up any room. Ditto squats and planks and such. Jumping rope is great cardio and endurance if you can do it where the impact noise won't wake anyone up. You can put on an iPod if you have one and dance.

I used cardio videos after I put them down and stretch/yoga/pilates floor exercises when watching TV. And I used to do 100 jumping jacks or jump rope by my bed when I woke up in the morning.

30 Day Shred DVD. I do it all the time while my 9 month old is sleeping. You just need room for a mat (if your floor isn't carpeted) and make sure that space is big enough for jumping jacks.

Our cable on-demand channel has many exercise videos. I like that I don't have to buy them.

Another vote for 30 day shred DVD.

Great mix of czrdio, weights and abs all in a very small space.

I move the coffee table out of the way and do yoga in my living room. If you have about 5x7 feet of room, that's enough. There are cable channels that have yoga programs - I DVR "Namaste Yoga", or just practice on my own.

We have a frame that we can put our regular bike into to turn it into a stationary bike. You can set resistance and go for a bike-ride. When we're not using it, the bike goes outside. The frame is only about 2 ft wide, but it is a bit of a hassle to move the bike in and out.

Get the Firm videos. They are excellent for cardio and toning.

I swear by them, as do many of my friends. And they've been around for quite some time.

Get a kettle bell. They are small and a great cardio/weight bearing workout. I keep mine under my coffee table and do reps several times a day whenever I can squeeze in the time.

Get some pilates and yoga DVDs - you don't need a lot of space, just a good mat and room to lay it out near the t.v.

I downloaded an I-Pod workout from the I-Tunes website. I did it once and it was really pretty good, plus came with about 10 songs for $9.99. The site had about 10 choices and it was listed under Nike-Fit or something like that.

What kind of bra do you wear when you jump rope? I just bought a jump rope but it's killing my breasts to use it.

I took the seat part off of a stationary bike and put the pedal part under my desk, so when I'm online i can pedal it. I think they sell something similar to this called a Gazelle or something.

re: the bra question I actually wear two or three! (I'm large chested in case you couldn't guess)
