Tell me about UC - Santa Cruz

If anyone has attended UC Santa Cruz, I'd like to hear your impressions. Is it true the dorms overlook the ocean?

What do you want to know? It's a terrific school, especially for sciences. Yes, some dorms overlook the ocean.

If your child isn't very motivated, it might not be a good fit. Here's why. The campus has some amazing resources and you can really take your education as far as you want to go. If you want to do real research as an undergrad, the professors will absolutely support you and you will have access to all the tools you need. If you prefer to float and smoke pot, tho, no one is going to stop you either.

It's beautiful, but if you are applying from DC/MD/VA you will find it difficult to get into and also be paying full-freight for OOS, but you probably already know that.

What's to say? It indicates that someone didn't get into a better UC.

Or, maybe they did, but chose to take a scholarship from a more humble school.

Not everyone automatically attends the highest ranked school that accepts them.

Some of the dorms overlook the ocean. The campus is *exceptionally* beautiful. Seriously.

There are a lot of really wonderful academic programs at UCSC and it can be a great place to go to school. But it also feels a million miles away from DC.

The town and the school are a bit odd, so I would absolutely suggest that you visit before making any application decisions.
