| We are looking to buy a house in Fairfax county (closing by this Spring). Our daughter will not be entering kindergarten until September 2016. However, I keep hearing about how long the wait lists are in Fairfax county for SACC programs. Should I (or rather, CAN I) put her on a waitlist now, or do I need to wait until this time next year? |
| The length of the wait list can vary greatly by school depending on the number of families with both parents working outside the home. You won't be able to put your child on a wait list unless you are a Fairfax County resident. The wait list for September 2016 will open in July 2015. You can get more information at - http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/ofc/sacc.htm |

OP here - thanks for the information. Looks like we have a little bit of time.
Looking at the weblink, it only mentions a couple of centers. Does anyone know if all elementary schools have a SACC program, or are the kids transported to another place for the afternoon hours? |
If the school you are zoned for does not have a SACC program or if you can't get a spot in the SACC program by the time your child starts you are in charge of finding your own before or after school care program for your child. Some county buses will drop off at some after school care programs if they are on the bus routes. |
| Does anyone know where SACC is available and where it isn't? I tried finding this information ont he Fairfax county schools website but couldn't make it out. Thanks. |
you have to look up individual schools. the site will list if they have SACC. OP be sure to call first thing on the day you are allowed to sign up for your school. |
| i believe 1 year but the waiting list is 1.5 years |
| Our school has 600 students and a SACC wait list of 125. Every year we get on the list on the first possible day (usually July of the previous year) but I have no real hope we will ever get anywhere with it. |
