Not against DC having sugar, just looking for a cake recipe, and especially icing recipe, with substitutes so overall the sugar shock to the system is less DC hasn't had sugar yet, and I'd like to do a "smash cupcake" so trying to reduce the amount right before bed. Thanks!

Just get a grocery store cake if it's just for pictures and don't let the kid eat much. Or have a smash fruit if you feel strongly about sugar.

In my experience, one year olds rarely eat very much - if any - of the cake, so I think you'd be safe with a regular cupcake. I couldn't imagine making a whole batch of low-sugar cupcakes (it just doesn't sound that tasty) for a child who may eat only one bite. Why not make simple chocolate cupcakes and sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar? That way, you can control the amount of "frosting" your little one gets, but the cupcake would still be good enough to eat for the adults.

For fucks sake, unclench. It's a cupcake. Take the day off, then go back to MUST CONTROL EVERYTHING the next day.

FYI formula and breast milk are both high in sugar.

Throw some cream cheese frosting on a muffin?

Omg what if the baby gets sugar?!? I can't have a fat child!!!

Get a mini cup cake pan and make mini cup cakes. They are prefect for kids- like a 1/5 the size of a regular cup cake. Just remember the small one cook faster.

Oh... chill ladies. My 15th month old hasn't had sugar yet and I'm a baker (an actual trained pastry chef). Sugar simply hasn't come up for him yet! We offered him a slice of his birthday cake and he didn't want it (I, personally, LOATHE the idea of a "smash" cake or cupcake).

Google muffins made with apple or pear sauce instead of sugar and use cream cheese as a frosting.

How nasty would a dry-ass muffin with cream cheese be?

Wow - seek psychological assistance for your anger issues, Posters! OP asked a simple question. No one is attacking your lifestyle choices or your love of refined sugar (although based on some of the responses, I think backing off sugar for awhile might be helpful).

As PP suggested, applesauce muffins are delicious.

It's one day. The baby will barely eat any. Just get a grocery store cupcake and call it a day.

I mentioned my profession to illustrate that I am obviously not opposed to the use of sugar. Calm yourself.

As opposed to the taste of formula, unsalted purees, unseasoned rice and bland breast milk? The kid is one - obviously not a foodie yet.
