What have *any* of them done? Most folks who receive them haven't done much of anything.

She's one of the best actresses, if not the best, of our time, plus she's done a bunch of feministy stuff. She doesn't not deserve it any more than the rest of them.

She's a pretty good actress and been in a bunch of movies. That plus probably help BO raise money. I see Gweneth Paltrow up for one in a few years.

It's a civilian for contribution to US society--cultural, political, so there's a range of who gets them.

She's the greatest actress of her generation. She has certainly contributed to the arts and our cultural landscape.

"The Presidential Medal of Freedom is reserved for individuals who have made "meritorious contributions" to U.S. security, world peace or cultural endeavors."

I think Meryl Streep qualifies. She's one of the best film actresses ever. Period. She's also the spokesperson for the National Women's History Museum and has donated a lot of money to that organization.
