Shuman's Jelly Cake for Christmas

I just learned that the old Alexandria tradition, Shuman's jelly cake, is alive and well. You can order via www.shumansbakery.com. What great news for the Christmas season!

I remember this from when I was a child!

Try it with ice cream or with coffee in the AM. Or, my favorite, with some prosecco. Soooo good!!

Shuman's was a childhood tradition for me. Weekly!

It's nice that Firehook still makes it. I remember them being stacked in the windows. My parents still order one.

Actually Firehook doesn't make it - the original family does. Check out the website. Shumansbakery.com

Sorry, got cut off too fast there - whoever makes it, I'm really glad it's still available!

I've never had it (we are transplants) but it sounds delicious and like a great Christmas dinner dessert. We have to go by Alexandria on Dec 21 anyway... If any of y'all have had it, do you think if we pick it up the 21st it will keep til Christmas dinner the 25th, or should we try to pick it up closer to Christmas?
Anonymous
I've had it - if you keep it in a cool place it will keep until Christmas!!!

Thanks OP, now I am seriously craving it! We get it every year, and yes it will keep. I try to always have one in the freezer, too, bc it thaws quickly & lasts. It's great if you have last minute visitors.

Yeah good point about freezing it! I actually like it in the summer straight out of the freezer but it thaws pretty quickly. Great Christmas dessert! Some people like it with egg nog or ice cream but I second the idea of prosecco!!

How many people would it feed/how many servings? I'm considering ordering it for a party for about 25 people...
