OK, so I have a couch that is the same exact thing as this one: http://www.realtourinc.com/index.cfm?action=NewTour&ido=27307341#25
I would really love ideas for how pull together other pieces for around this couch, particularly throw pillows, area rug, end table, and maybe an ottoman or coffee table. I definitely want to find a way to brighten it up a bit, if possible. I like bolder colors and my style is probably contemporary or even a bit Anthropologie/boho-ish. I'd appreciate any thoughts! |
I am not sure if the couch is the same color, but I would get a throw rug that has my favorite colors in it. I may go for something with yellows and purples to match the gray couch. Then I would pick a couple of funky chairs that have a similar color scheme. Next, curtains, and finally accessories. I love the enamel side tables that you can get in different colors. I have a pair in a shade of green that matches my patio set. It is a nice pop of color. Last, pick a wall color that ties everything together. |
Go with a rug in a color you like. Ikea has some cute pillows that you could buy to coordinate with the rug:

Check Overstock for area rugs. Best prices and selection. |
Thanks all! Please keep the recommendations coming! |
The couch is really a very standard neutral, both in style and in color, so you could literally do anything you want.
I like to decorate around a picture that I love, and like modernish-hippy type stuff. Here's one way I would decorate this: Print: https://www.etsy.com/listing/188835113/citrus-family-pomelo-tangerine?ref=shop_home_active_23 Rug: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Rainbow-Multi-Stripe-Rug-Rug-5-x-8/6534849/product.html Chair: http://www.designpublic.com/lounge-chairs/gus-modern-carmichael-chair Pillow: http://www.cb2.com/view-all-pillows-throws/pillows-throws/multi-embroidered-red-18x12-pillow/f9398 Coffee table: http://www.cb2.com/chevron-coffee-table/s645649 End table: http://www.designpublic.com/side-and-end-tables/semigood-design-rian-end-table But that couch will work with such a wide variety of styles and colors. I would pick something (like a print, rug or pillow) that has colors you love, and design around it. |
Wow, PP, I love your ideas! Thank you so much! I think choosing a print and going from there is a wonderful approach - I'm going to do that. I love the one you linked to. I'm kind of a blue/aqua person, so I'm going to look for a similar style print in that color family. Thanks a ton. |
PP, if you feel so inclined, do you have any thoughts on creating a similar feel but doing it with pops of aqua/teal and fuschia? I like some pics online, but I'm worried about keeping it sophisticated (but still fun) and also not too girly? Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions ![]() |
OP again- something like this: http://www.houzz.com/discussions/134440/just-purchased-a-gray-sofa-for-a-cottage But I don't know how to pull the pieces together or if it would work. |
Hi,
OK, a couple thoughts this time. Honestly it would really depend on how things look in person. I would think that if you were to go really aggressive with the pink rug, just downplay everything else. Hi,
This was the rug, although there are many cheaper options out there. I guess I like boldly colored rugs, but the over dying keeps it kind of muted. Rug:http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod3140709&categoryId=cat2970143 Another pillow, maybe:http://www.target.com/p/stitched-velvet-applique-pillow-hot-pink-18x18/-/A-14624186?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=google_pla_df&LNM=14624186&CPNG=Home+Decor&kpid=14624186&LID=25pgs&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14624186&kpid=14624186&gclid=Cj0KEQiAqYCkBRC4xNiSu5-Y-PcBEiQA96OM9EkFhI6Gq1j-u3yagPvIMMH0uoGGPbNIFAyX06yztzcaAocH8P8HAQ |
Those are both awesome! (I think I may order the pillow soon, just in case!) I love that rug, particularly since it's not too light which is good with kids. I will try to find a less expensive one. Thanks again - such great ideas! |
