Christmas break getaway - Massanutten?

Anonymous
We would like to take our kids on a quick getaway between Christmas and New Years - ideally 2-3 nights, somewhere driving distance less than 2-3 hours, possibly involving skiing (first time for kids ages 5 and 7). Someone suggested Massanutten.

Do you have any other suggestions?

We just went there for Thanksgiving. It's not fancy, but there is stuff to do. Our kids loved the waterpark and Luray caverns. We obviously didn't ski because it isn't the season yet, but the slopes are close. The area isn't much, but there is a Food Lion close by for groceries. There aren't really restaurants close by, but the resort pizza place wasn't terrible for take out.

Basically, it was fun but not upscale. The kids don't really care about upscale and had a good time.

*The beds were surprisingly comfortable.

Thanks. How many days would be appropriate for a stay if we want to ski and do the waterpark? 3 nights?

There's a decent Italian restaurant called Romano's just off the property and a BBQ placed called Hank's Smokehouse that is good. The food on-site is pretty rough. We don't ski, but my kids loved the waterpark and snow tubing. You need to get a timed ticket for snow tubing.

we went last year over new years for 3 nights. it was very fun. they have skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snow tubing, water park, regular indoor pool. a few restaurants. we ate at a family pub kind of place and the food was just fine. we rented a time share townhouse. I would do it all again and a couple of years.

What lodging option offers the best value? Condo or hotel?
