My DS is in kindergarten and I often hear and read about reading levels. Can anyone tell me where there is a list of books and/or a description of the types of books in each level? Thanks. |
Different school districts have come up with different ways to measure reading levels. Just going by grade level is very imprecise.
Recently, something called Lexile number has been used more and more. I find it to be pretty useful. Here is a Guide with sample books at each level, and a range of levels for each grade. http://www.lexile.com/uploads/PDF's/LexileMapColor_4-4-07_11x17.pdf To search for the Lexile Number of a particular book, go here and plug in the book's title: http://www.lexile.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?view=fa&tabindex=2&tabid=20&tabpageid=61 Basic information about Lexile Ratings and how to use the information at home: http://www.lexile.com/PDF/Lexiles-at-Home-0504.pdf |
Here's a link to the various reading levels across systems. My kids' school uses Fountas-Pinnell guided reading levels.

What an awesome resource! Thanks! (I posted the Lexile info.) |
You can also go on the scholastic books website, go to "book wizard", maybe it's listed under teacher resources.... search your book title and they usually list the lexile, DRA (another common system) and maybe approx grade level..... |
