Surrogate with Shady Grove using my own egg

Anonymous
Hi ladies, I just came back from Shady Grove and because of my conditions, my uterus is not capable of carrying a baby. The doctor recommend me use a surrogate but my own egg. Anyone know how much it will cost for surrogate using your own egg? And what is the process? I am super sad that I can't carry my own baby and never thought about surrogate so I am starting from scratch.

Thanks.

Here is a rundown - http://www.artparenting.com/compensation.html

Keep in mind that your insurance will not cover any of the procedures for the gestation surrogate and that does add up.

Once the gestation surrogate (GS) is pregnant, her insurance should take over for her medical expenses.

Let me warn you right now that the process takes longer than you are thinking. We are working with our second GS (the first one did not respond well to the medicine and we had once cancelled cycle and two failures). Figure 3-6 months to preliminarily match with the GS, then there is the psych and physical testing for her (we lost a potential GS at this stage) the meeting with a social worker for you, your partner, the GS and her partner, and obtaining final approval from the clinic that they will work with her. Then there is the preparation of the contracts, you meet with your lawyer, she meets with her lawyer, and then the contracts are signed. Then you start the process with the clinic, which usually begins with a mock cycle for the GS. Once that is done, you have to get your cycles in sync for the big day. It is not a sprint, but a marathon.

Good Luck!

Did surrogacy with my eggs via Shady Grove. Here's another cost sheet from CSP - they are probably the highest end of potential compensation for surrogates (gestational carriers), counselors, etc - but more of the inclusive costs when you add everything all together (including IVF & other costs etc into the picture) - http://www.creatingfamilies.com/intended-parents/default/financial-33?Id=44#.VH5z1_R4qpw. We did several years ago -- had first surrogate who had to drop out (so some lost costs), 2 IVF tries, twin fee (and bed rest/housekeeping support/etc costs) - ended up above $125,000 grand total. (if you went without the agency that had has required counselor fees and higher end surrogacy fees (and got lucky on first round IVF, no rematching, no twin fee & related costs) - the difference is probably $15-20K depending on whatever variables). Agree with PP - it took much longer than we thought. When we met with the agency they said it's often a 24 month process - and we didn't believe them, but that's exactly where we came out on it.

PP here - sorry I realized how unclear what I posted seemed after I hit submit. I had wanted to send the CSP cost list not to recommend using them but to show the scope and range of potential costs (engaging with a lawyer and/or agency; matching with a surrogate (gestational carrier) which includes the social worker/counselor/psychologist screening and in person meeting and medical screening; then the IVF process and costs (including if you have multiple tries)- and whatever travel costs your GC might have depending on where they are from; depending on the GC's insurance, you may or may not have some premium costs or deductibles or other related costs; if you have twins, you can have a twin fee and costs for extra support for the GC like extra day care for their kids or bed rest fees or paying for housekeeping for her if she's on bed rest; if she has a c-section or any even minor complications there are related potential costs; etc... so just be ready that it's more of a potential range of costs based on contingencies rather than a 'flat rate'). Also realized I didn't send my best thoughts and also my sympathies about your situation -- I still wish I had been able to carry a child and it is a real loss that people don't really understand or relate to much of the time... am very glad we did the surrogacy process and very grateful for being able to my children.
