growing out highlights

Anonymous
Does anyone have any experience with color depositing shampoos? I have naturally brown hair that I have highlighted for about 10 years now, but I'm tired of the hassle and expense. Everytime I have tried to dye it brown, it doesn't look like the color I have naturally, and I get roots. So, should I just grow out and look tacky in the meantime? Or can I shampoo in a color depositing shampoo for the next year until the highlights grow out. And do you like Artec or Bumble better?

Can you go to a salon and get it dyed as close to your natural color as possible so it is less noticable when it grows out? I have toyed with this myself but never looked into it.

I went back to natural when I had DS1, five years ago. I had them dye it as close as possible and then let it grow. I didn't get bad roots and the process didn't take long to grow it out. It was pricey, but worth it.
