I'm doing my first DE cycle and got a BFP (Yay!) after 4 years of TTC. SG originally told me they were going to do 3 betas. But after the 2nd one which was really good (doubling time of 44.8 hours), they aren't going to do the 3rd one. I'm kinda bummed about it since I'm so scared of a MC that having the 3rd beta would be reassuring.
Has anyone experienced this? What was your outcome? Thanks! |
| But they will do an ultrasound pretty soon after the first beta would have been? I'm guessing and if that's the case it's what happened to me at CFA with less than stellar doubling but very high values -- which turned out to be my now 10 month old twins. |
| Sorry, meant an u/s soon after when the third beta would have been. |
| I only had 2 with average doubling times at CFA and was told by SG that they only skip the 3rd when they think things are going well! As PP said, you should have an U/S within a couple of weeks that will provide more valuable information. |
| Don't stress about it. A third beta will not prevent a miscarriage, nor is it a guarantee that you won't have one. The first trimester is just a painful march--you simply have to put one foot in front of the other until you hit 12 weeks. Hang in there! You are pregnant! |
|
3rd beta would have been at 5w3dor4d. U/S won't be until 7w (could be slightly earlier 6w, but 6.5w is better and we will be out of town). So I know the U/S is only 1.5 weeks away, but after having a MC many years ago, 1.5 weeks just seems like forever.
I know the beta wont stop a MC, but I just like the reassurance that things are going well. Hell, I'd like to do daily (hourly LOL) betas if I could
|
| Ultrasounds are your new reassurance! I got a lot of them as I was high risk. Plus I bought a home fetal Doppler to reassure myself yet more. |
Celebrate the fact you had a nice doubling beta and you are PREGNANT! Easier said than done, but I was fine with just 2 betas. Betas are stressful; no betas are stressful; u/s are stressful, etc...it never ends.
|
| The one time I was pregnant at SG they didn't do a third beta because my levels were above 2000 by the second beta. |
| Congratulations, OP! |
| Did you ask for a third? I would call the nurse back and have her tell the dr that you want one and are stressing about it. |
| They didn't do a third for me cause I was having twins and my betas were very high. The twins are 20 months now. Congrats! |
Same for me, too. Take it as a positive sign, OP. |
I had only 2 betas the cycle of my twins, as well, but it wasn't because "I was having twins." It was because my betas were strong and a 3rd was not necessary. |
| I only had 2 betas as the 2nd one basically quadrupled. The nurse said I was welcome to a 3rd but it wasn't necessary unless I wanted it. I skipped it as I found the waiting only stressed me out. |
