Feeling Crappy After Glucose Test

Anonymous
I just took a glucose test. After pounding the drink I found myself hot, tingly, extremely uncomfortable and light-headed. Two hours later I still feel horrible. Is this normal? I read the glucose bottle and there are definitely reactions to be expected but I really feel bad. I can't get comfortable and just feel like I am drugged. Does this happen to everyone?

You had sugar overload, now your body has to work extra hard (since glucola is super sweet) to compensate for it. Sometimes the body overcompensates for the sugar making you feel like you "crashed".

Ever had too much candy, got hyper, then felt sleepy an hour later?

I still feel pretty gross. I called the doctor. Nurse told me I might be getting sick but the glucose shouldn't have made me feel that way. GRRRRRRR.

I felt pretty awful the whole day of the glucose test, too, and my doctor agreed that it hits some people a lot harder than others - and with absolutely no correlation to test results. Wouldn't worry about it too much, but hopefully you're not coincidentally coming down with something!

Google it....lots of women get really sick with the side effects. I'm sure you'll be okay, but it's pretty damned inconvenient in my opinion, for a test with such questionable value anyway. I'd be sure to let your doctor (not nurse) know if you stayed sick over the weekend.
