8x10 Oriental Rug from 1980's

Anonymous
We have a large oriental rug that I inherited from my aunt and uncle. It's pretty classic 1980's color scheme: creams and pastels. I just don't like it very much and an 8x12 rug isn't a good fit for our furniture configuration. I've decided to take it up, but I'm not sure what to do with it. I feel like I should get rid of it, but 1) I feel guilty for sentimental reasons and 2) it's a quality rug. What say you, DCUM? What should I do with an outdated, but quality rug?

Sell it or donate it. Is it handmade? Then try selling. Look this is just some 1980s rug, not a real antique.

We sold several similar rugs on Craigs List. Just don't expect to get much for them. I think we sold an 8 by 10 within the past year for about $80.

Sell it on Craigslist so that someone else can enjoy it. That always makes me feel better when I have to get rid of something that holds sentimental value.

If it's a Karastan, you might get more than if another brand. Still, it's just patterned carpet. We have one in brighter colors that we use in a small office/study area.

When it comes to getting rid of sentimental things, I find it comforting to know that it is going to someone who can actually use it and enjoy it. Most things do not get better with age so they might as well get some use by someone who needs them.

OP here. That's very good advice. My hesitation is entirely sentimental.
