Infertility Support and Discussion
| Hi, I'm getting the itch for #2. Here's the catch: I'm 40 and nursing my 18 month old who likes to co-sleep. For #1, I charted and got pregnant pretty quickly. Now, after 40, with a toddler, I'm worried that it's going to be a lot harder. My toddler has already tried to yank my basal thermometer from me so I couldn't take my temp. Any tips for me? I would love to hear positive stories from others like me. |

Here's a positive story for you:
I was 37 and nursing #1 (who was 12 months old and co-slept) when I accidentally got pregnant with #2. #1 was on some solids, but was not on a sippy-cup yet (and never did use a bottle). In fact, until switching to a sippy-cup at 16 months, she never did get liquids any other way than nursing. It can definitely happen. |
Sorry, that should have read 14 months, not 16 months. |

Has your period returned yet?
We got preg with #2 when #1 was 15 months old and I was still nursing and pumping at work and #1 was co-cleeping. We were not activly trying to get pregnant but we were not actively avoiding getting pregnant either. We had used fetility awareness NOT to get pregnant previous to conceiving #1, temp and mucus observation. I was considering charting my temp again but I was hesitant I'd get a good reading because I was still up during the night nursing #1. If it were me, I'd get a second thermometer and give one to your child and use the other for you. Moral of our story, it can happen...hope it happens for you soon! |
| PPs thank you. Yes, I've had my period back for 6 months. I'm going to try to get #1 back to sleeping in his crib. Charting was so much easier before but I just need to do what I can. |
| Here's another positive story for you: I was nursing 22 month old twins when I accidentally got pregnant. I was 42, but not co-sleeping. Good luck! |

I got pregnant when #1 was 13 m.o. I got my period back when he was 5 m.o. (i was pumping at work and my milk slowly declined through the months). We were co sleeping part of the night. We had good luck with ovulation kits for both kids. Good luck! It's crazy with 2 but a lot of fun!

| I got pg with #1 while nursing my 16 month old (3 times a day, occasionally 4). I started charting a few months after I got my period back to confirm I was ovulating and got pregnant the second month of charting. Even if taking temps is a challenge, just pay really close attention to your CF - that always did the trick for me on telling me when it was time to go for it! |
