| We will although we are happy where we are. I'm sure there are others. |
| Why are you doing that? Just to insult your school? |
How will the school know? |
| The school gets a list. |
| I did, just to see if dc would get a spot in Latin for 5th. He pulled a number around 500 and he's continuing in private. |
| I thought about it (could we get a spot at MV or YY?). But we would likely not switch, and if we somehow got in, the decisions and any resulting "what ifs" would be too painful. So, no, we are throwing are chips in with Lee for the long haul. |
| I love my school (love, love) but it was our second choice two years ago. We play for the hell of it to see if we get our top choice. Even if we do, not sure if we would switch, but just want the choice. |
I would recommend only playing if you know you will leave. We did the same thing (only lotteried for #1) but ended up being really sad when we got in. We didn't want to leave out #2 as we decided it was really our #1 after all. We figure the grass wasn't always greener. It was agonizing. |

Seriously, what is the point of playing the lottery "just for fun" if you don't actually want to switch? You are setting yourself up for stress and agonizing. AND you make it harder for people who desperately want spots and have to sit by waiting while you decide (probably at the last minute) whether to stay at the school you already love or take a spot at another school you might also love.
I swear we would all be better off in DC if we had less "choice." |
|
| I always play. Just to keep options open. |
| But now with the common lottery if you rank another school above your current school "just for fun" wouldn't you then have to switch to the new school (unless current school is in boundary for you)? |
No, you don't need to rank your current school or leave. |
+1 That said, I think the tighening of capacity is creating less choice by default and making more schools viable than ever before. |
| All options have value, even out-of-the-money options. |
