What age did you transition to 1 nap/day?

What age did you do this - and did you make it happen or did you wait for the baby to "show" you? How do you know when it's time for one nap instead of two? My 13MO is still on 2 naps and I'm just curious...

My dd went to one at 17 months. She just wouldn't sleep and would play in her crib or cry mama for about 30 minutes. The month it takes for them to really transition is tough, b/c they are too tired to be happy but not tired enough to sleep. Good luck!

BTW: She dropped her pm nap, but I gradually moved the am to pm (one o'clock - but that took a little longer).

There was just a thread on this subject yesterday:

Search for the title, "When did your DC go from 2 naps to 1?"

I had nothing to do with it--right after his 1st birthday my son just wouldn't go down for that 2nd nap anymore--he'd either just play in his crib forever or cry, and CIO was never effective with my stubborn little guy. The morning nap just gradually moved to a later time.

I miss naps. At 3 we've given them up completely unless he happens to fall asleep in the car.

My son is transitioning himself to one nap all on his own, at 27 months. It's much later than most, but it's his rhythm. Daycare forces him to only have one nap, and he falls asleep during lunch or before lunch at the playground!! Just follow your child's cues. Each child has his/her own schedule.
