we are meeting friends with kids for dinner (and we have a 1 year old and 3 year old as well) near Dulles, after we fly in at 4 on Saturday and before they drive back that evening. The kids have to eat, and we will have our car, so looking for a quick, hopefully non-fast food option relatively close to Dulles. Doesn't have to be fancy, or even amazing food - normal food with basic kid friendly (ie high chairs) is fine, and totally open to ethnic options (Indian, Korean, Thai, etc).
Would appreciate any input as we are not really familiar with that area |

Try this:
amphoragroup.com/amphora-diner-deluxe It's in Herndon, which is very close and easily accessible to Dulles. (I work in one of the big business out there). You can also go on Yelp and pick one out, put Herndon into the search function. There is a pretty good sushi restaurant out there, as well as a few other places. Yelp will help you sort out what you want, and you can see on the map if it's close. Stick close to Elden St (where Amphora is) or Route 28. There are places close there too, but if you venture too far towards the mall by Route 7 there can be a lot of traffic. Oh, also try the Magic mushroom, which is in Herndon. THat one's pretty good too. Hope that helps. |
| We usually stop at Cafe Deluxe in Tysons before heading to Dulles. Not super close, but also not very far from the airport access road - good food, kid-friendly, close to the freeway. |
|
Cafe Deluxe is really far. I'd suggest a restaurant in the Dulles 28 Centre.

Thanks for the tip on Route 7.
I am hoping to avoid Tysons area on the Saturday Thanksgiving weekend (I am sure it'll be crazy there!) |
| Do NOT go out to Tyson's. Right up the road in sterling/Ashbrun is a Buffalo Wild Wings, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Pei Wei, Moby Dick Kabob. Those are all in the Dulles 28 center which is right beside the exit for rt. 28. F you go a bit farther up Waxpool (the road that connects to 28), there is a 5 Guys, The V Eatery, a pho place, Moes, and a Peruvian chicken place. Oh, and a wonderful Indian restaurant called Haveli. |
| Sorry, meant Ashburn, thanks auto not correct |
| Even Wegman's is a fun place for the kids to pick and choose from the giant hot bars. Also, Sweet Frog is a kid favorite for dessert - self-serve frozen yogurt of various flavors, and a toppings bar. |
|
Generous George's would be perfect. 10 min from airport.
|
Is Magic Mushroom new? Is it like that restaurant in Charlottesville? I second Amphora! Easy and convenient. The suggestions along rte 28 would work out well too. Eggspectation in Chantilly could be good too. Maybe a bit too far. |
|
There are a lot of sit-down restaurants at the Dulles Town Center mall, which is located at the intersection of Rt. 28 and 7. They have the Cheescake Factory for one. The ones near Wegman's are fast food/junk foodish for the most part.

Is that where one of the GAR is? |
| GAR = Great American Restaurant chain? |
|
You could do call-ahead at Ford's Fish Shack or Sweetwater Tavern.
Wegman's is be a good choice with kids. Opa! in Ashburn is great for Greek, Zeitoon is terrific Moroccan fare, A Taste of Burma is excellent, TooSosso is Pakistani deliciousness, Emilio's has great brick-oven pizza, BGR is good. Any of these places are good with kids. StoneCove KitBar is a fun concept in Herndon. We also enjoy Copper Canyon Grill in Centerville and HoneyPig. |
| OP here - thanks! so many of these look yum! what was a chore, now i am looking forward to! thanks! |
