UVA, Bill Cosby and Penn State

The UVA situation is blowing up focused primarily on the ingrained culture of the school. Bill Cosby is getting destroyed. I get the feeling that UVA will take control of the situation after seeing the debacle of Penn State and the permanent damage that came from a defiant , mind boggling response of protect football at all costs. Somehow , I don't think students are going to riot at any changes that come from the revelations at Uva.

Penn State has an additional situation . Their current coach James Franklin is embroiled in a gang rape case involving the team he coached last year . He set up a situation where he recruited an all girl ring to "host" recruits (which is against the rules ) ending up with one of the girls being gang raped by his players in her dorm room while she was drunk and unconscious. The evidence was recorded on a phone and dorm cameras. Prior to the incident coach Franklin was quoted that he only hired assistant coaches with attractive wives. He told his team in a meeting that he had seen the video and there has been an allegation that Coach Franklin saw the video and asked it to be erased . Coach Franklin testified in preliminary testimony that he " lied to his team about seeing the video" and that he actually didn't see it. He called the victim while she was in the hospital getting examined "because she helped us with recruiting".

The trials for the 4 accused players start in January . Franklin will be called to testify.

UVA's immediate response was to hire an attorney who is a member of the fraternity in question, accused of gang-raping multiple women. So I don't think I get the same feeling.

It's not football that UVA is protecting. It's "tradition."

UVA sucks for it's coverup of these assaults. You know some of these assaults were reported right? And UVA did nothing. Paterno also reported Sandusky's behavior but because Paterno didn't follow up afterwards he and the school were vilified. Same should happen at UVA. Strip the fraternities.

Horrible things happen. A percentage of the population is bad. Certain environments attract weird/bad people. If UVA doesn't change the culture significantly , then they fall into the Penn State category. Penn State refused to miss even one football season at all costs and then hired a coach with a team gang rape situation because they thought he could win games.
I think UVA will fix it.... Once the reality sinks in.

A child is raped in your team shower by your longtime assistant coach and you don't have any outrage or even curiosity to follow up?

Penn State went right out and hired a sleazeball coach with leaving a program where he oversaw a gang rape by his players because they thought he could win . Nothing has changed at Penn State.

Sports is all about winning because winning means making bank. It's always been about the money. Always. Nothing, not gang rapes, will change that.
