Miralax for 4 year old

Anonymous
How much and how often do I give DC Miralax for constipation for a 4 yea old? I would rather not call the pediatrician on a Sunday for constipation.

I don't know the dosage for you but I have found that Miralax is very slow acting. For my son, he had to take it for several days before it kicked in. If s/he's really uncomfortable, I recommend a glycerin suppository. Inserting is not as awful as it sounds and it will work much more quickly.

My ped told me that the right dose of miralax is the one that works.
yes- it is not super fast acting. How uncomfortable and how long since poop? Have you been on miralax before? Assuming it is not horrible I would start with 1/2 capful.
for a 'cleanout' we were told to give 3 capfuls in a 12 hour period.

Miralax did nothing for my kids. We use 1 teaspoon of epsom salts in 4 oz of water. Don't plan on going anywhere. You need to stay close to the toilet.

My 7 year old weighs 40 lbs and takes 2 tsp of Miralax a day with 6 oz of milk or juice.

My DD has been on it for more than a year. She is about 32 pounds and takes a 1/4 cap full (it is about a teaspoon) every day.

Doc said to keep her on until we got to a point where we could control her diet enough that she didn't need it (less finicky - she will eat great one day and horribly the next).

Quit the milk and you might be able to quit the Miralax.

After the clean-out, for maintenance we LOVE Fleet fiber gummies around our house (4 and 6 year olds both major constipation prone). NP at our pediatrician recommended it. I thought my kids would need miralax the rest of their lives, but Fleets fiber gummies have been a game changer.

Thanks for your diagnosis, but my child has other issues that cause this. He will be on it for life most likely.

We started with a near cap. After it started working, we gave less and less. Our ped told us to titrate down the dose from there and aim for a soft stool a few times a week/ daily.

I'm the PP, and I understand that, as I have similar issues and am on it regardless. It was just a suggestion.
