I took my car to jiffy lube for an oil change. They also changed my air filter. When I left my car shut off. I drove it around for 20 minutes it shut off so real times after. I have never had this problem. I took it back to them immediately. The manager said oh it was just pinched right here. You're good to go I go to leave it cuts off again. In the end they take out the air filter and put it back in. It's cut off on me once a day since.
I'm not sure what to do. All of my conversations in person were with the manager. He came back and said he Googled my car and my car is known to have these problems. My car was fine before they touched it.[img] Thanks in advance for any advice |
| What else did they check? Have you checked it out yourself for any loose connections and stuff? |
| They checked loose connections in front of me. Honestly I know nothing about cars. They took it next door to Meineke and they said the mechanic their said the filter was properly installed. But it went from cutting off every few minutes to now once a day. |
| I know someone whose car died a couple days after getting their oil changed there. They forgot to put new oil in. The engine seized up, but JL refused to pay them anything. I won't go there now. |
| If OP's been driving around so I am sure it's not the oil. |

What kind and year of car are we talking about. Honda, Acura?

| 2005 chrysler sebring |
| When it stops does the radio go off? Do the dash light come on or stay on? You put it in park and it starts right back up? I don’t think this is related to the oil change. It sounds like an ignition switch problem or electrical. |
| Did they replace a fuel line filter? |
| My battery died a few weeks ago ( old battery). So my radio doesn't work right now I have to take it to the dealer to get it reset. It's starts right back up after I put it in park. They did an oil change and changed my air filter. Could they have hit something? |
| Still thinking it is electrical. Was the battery dead or was it the beginning of this problem and the battery got the blame? I went through this same situation about two years ago and it is very frustrating. The next time it happens look to see if the dashboard lights are on before you touch the key. See if they blink on and off if you rattle the key before turning it off to restart the car. |

First of all, best thing would be to seek out online Chrysler/Sebring forums where car enthusiasts tend to be. Register, post your question and other users will generally ask you to clarify and/or test for a few things to narrow down to cause.
As another poster suggested, check your engine oil level with the dipstick just to make sure that 1) there is oil and 2) it has right level of oil. You may want to do that at least 10-20 mins after you've turned off your car. Next, changing air filter won't cause the car to stall like that. Does the car stall when engine is cold or consistently after approx. 15-20mins, ie when engine is warm? if that happens always when warm, have someone check the coil of the car. The coil is a device that "amplifies" the voltage from your battery (12v) to 10k volts before feeding it to the spark plugs. A problem with coil may not show up until the car is warm, as it expands with heat, some connectors inside may disconnect, leading to spark plugs not receiving sufficient voltage and you engine may hesitate and/or stall. If you have new battery, then battery is not the issue. Check all wire connectors. Its possible that they partially disconnected some connections. I know it sucks, specially when you get to have your car fixed, then end up with more trouble than you had before going in. We had a same issue with another place, we did a 90k tune-up prior to a 1000 mile trip. 200 miles into the trip oil was leaking everywhere in the engine. The culprit? They had put too much oil in the car, the extra pressure made the oil go where it was not supposed to go (into the spark plug tube), ruined a seal/gasket and disconnected the wire to one of the cylinders. Did they admit fault? Nope, not at all. So I checked my other car which we gave to same place, it also had too much oil. Lesson learned? Always check oil level after an oil change. Who did this to us? Their name starts with Car, and ends with Max. Best of luck and let us know what you find out. |
| Actually the battery died a couple of months ago. The battery was just dead. I just looked at the receipt. The dashboard lights are still on when it cuts off. |
Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'll ask my boyfriend to check some of these. I don't know how to do any of these |
You're welcome. Just remembered another thing. In your car you have to two fuse boxes, one in engine bay and the second on the side of your dash on the driver side. The side one may include a tool to help you take them out. Find the fuses boxes and gently pull out one, check to see if its fine or not, if fine (ie connection is not broken), then put it back in, then go to next fuse and do the same. If broken, there are some spare ones within the fuse box which you can use to replace. This will do two things: 1) help you find any broken fuses (and replace if broken) and 2) even if not broken, some electrical issue get "magically" fixed by removing then reinserting the fuse. |
