HOV Lanes on 66-W and Trip to Dulles

Anonymous
I need to pick my husband up at Dulles this evening, which will require a westbound trip on 66 during rush hour to get to the Dulles Toll Road. I understand that drivers going to pick someone up or drop someone off at Dulles during rush hour are exempt from the HOV restrictions. But what proof is required to show that you are actually picking someone up at the airport? I am an idiot and don't have my husband's itinerary.

Any guidance is appreciated!

You should be fine - apparently the cops are pretty good at figuring this stuff out. It would be nice if you knew his flight # though.

Call the VA State troopers. I read an article in the Sunday Post that they are hiking up the penalties for driving single during HOV hours, including adding points to your driving record on the 2nd offense.

Enforcement of HOV is usually on the exit ramps or outside the Beltway. So you should be fine since you will be on the Toll Road before you hit the Beltway. Leave early as there is often traffic!
