Has NPR lost America’s trust?

Anonymous
1) significant fall in listeners.

2) prominent long term editor says they've lost their way.

3) National controversy among the chattering classes over whether this editor (now former editor) is correct.

4) New CEO has a highly controversial twitter history that is automatically insulting and derogatory to large swathes of Americans.

How can you not argue NPR hasn't lost its way?

I am not surprised they have lost a big portion of the audience.

It’s not constant.

It never stops. And I am a raging lefty.

Who doesn’t actually listen to it.

Then there are those like you who pretend nothing's wrong.

I would not say there is nothing wrong, but there are a lot of posters on here exaggerating about the number of stories about people from marginalized groups. I listen regularly and the number of grievance stories is way down from what it was 2-3 years ago. If they are saying it's all the time, they either haven't listened lately or they aren't really paying attention.

+1

Not too surprising given that Republicans are known for their fabricated hysterics.

This site is mostly frequented by Democrats.

And 99% of the screaming about NPR! the economy! schools! laptop! sports! are non-local, loud-mouthed MAGAs trying to stir the sheet before the election.

This is not true, but I suspect that the leadership and employees of NPR feel this way, which is why NPR has lost its way.

Look at the number of comments in conservative forums about how women should never been given the right to vote or that they exist to have babies.

What kinds of forums? This is fascinating, I had no idea this was a popular opinion.

This is untrue. There is plenty of news content. You may not be interested in the stories, but they are still factual news stories.

Better than your Fox "news" or OAN.

What’s OAN?

I read the WSJ, financial times, and Economist. Much more informative and educational than the virtue signaling nonsense on NPR, which I quit in 2020 and never missed.

FT has been trash for 10 years now.

+1. I'm really lefty and I vote that way. NPR lost me and apparently others in this thread who are just like me. But keep telling yourself we're all MAGAs and there's no problem.

Yep. Just dismiss everyone who disagrees as MAGA/bots/whatever. I’m a card-carrying bleeding heart liberal, believe it or not, and NPR is no longer for me. If you like it, great! Keep listening! But you’re behaving like tinfoil weirdos when you can’t acknowledge that others might disagree.

Then you are privileged enough to not pay attention as this isn't a new phenomenon, do you think Dobbs was out of the blue?

You and your buddy misread my comment.

There are mostly Ds on DCUM, as the PP said, but there is definitely a small contingent of prolific MAGAs who are constantly starting threads to scream about various “issues”. Some are local but many aren’t. And, right on schedule, their hysterics build before big elections.

I’m sure you’ve both seen this.

This makes no sense. I don't think this thread was started by a MAGA supporter. The NYTimes article and Uri Berliner's article are not part of a pro Maga plot to create hysteria before an election. But, sadly, I think your point of view is shared by much of the NPR writers and staff who feel they are on a mission to save America.

I’m the first lefty pp of the two of us, and of course we’ve seen the MAGA press try to generate hysteria around various issues.

You’re still deliberately missing the point. I want unbiased news, and lots of it, and not lots of finger-wagging from any ideological side. I moved to another left-of-center media outlet that gives me that. When are you going to get your head out of the sand that NPR’s problems are not all created by Russian MAGA bots but are largely self-inflicted?

I never claimed that.

I was commenting on the MAGA activity on DCUM.

Just commenting on DCUM’s MAGA problem.

And I am sick of the Ds and progressives on DCUM and NPR. Where is the equality?

NPR turned me into an R. So much trash "reporting" in the last 10 years. It is a liberal blog, not a news outlet.
