OP here-- So the tour was OK. The school facilities i.e. playground, "library" if you want to call it that (it's in the middle of the school no "quiet zone") needs some definite updating/renovation. The school appears to be predominatly Hispanic (at least the kindergartners)cool with me, maybe baby girl can make new friends and pick up spanish? .. Ummmm what else-- the Kindergarten class rotates a teacher's assistant, so at different times of the day a class would have two teachers. Overall it seems like a good choice, at least for my family right now. I plan to be actively involved in any school my daughter attends, and supplement with tutoring and lots of other activities I'll be able to afford by not paying private school tuition. The school secretary and Secretary to the principal were very helpful and kind.
Nevertheless, I am disappointed! The facility should be way more up to par. She said they just got new windows...yipppee lol I work in DC with the at risk youth population, so I'm currently in tough neighborhoods with high crime..and it stumps me..how these failing schools, like FAILING schools get total new renovations and state of the art buildings. Granted, I'm sure it heightens the morale of the students..but guess what-- there are many young, educated professional geniunely GOOD people-already there & moving in- into that Mount Rainier/Brentwood neighborhood with their families and it upsets me that there aren't better options...better facilities... Stronger teachers...paraprofessionals.. Etc etc etc anyways end rant. It is what it is.
