University Park ES Boundaries and Principal?

Any chance that they will ever re-zone the boundaries of University Park Elementary School ? What are the most likely new boundaries? Do UP parents like the new principal?

There were some changes to the western boundaries of UPES when Edward M. Felegy ES opened in West Hyattsville this year. As it stands all of the schools in the Hyattsville/UP area are overcrowded, so unless there new or expanded facilities are built somewhere nearby, the current boundaries are likely to stay for a bit. The most likely move that could happen wouldn't be a boundary change, it would be a moving of the 6th grade to middle school, however Hyattsville Middle will need new/expanded facilities before that is likely to happen.

Will the new development across Rt1 be zoned to UPES? If all of the schools in the area are already crowded what is the plan there?

I'm not sure there is a plan, but my guess is yes, they would be. The neighborhood just north of them goes to UPES. The alternative is Riverdsle which is more overcrowded than UPES, unless of course, another building comes online.

Is Paint Branch overcrowded as well, or is there any chance of any of these kids East of Rte 1 (in Cafritz and Calvert Hills) getting re-zoned to Paint Branch?

Paint Branch ES is at about 80-90 percent of capacity. Its catchment area is adjacent to the catchment areas for Hollywood, Berwyn Heights, and University Park. These three schools are all over capacity, but the parents whoose children go to these schools don't want the school boundaries moved. Fortunately, Paint Branch ES is important to the future development plans of the Univ. of MD, so the University is working with the County to better the school.
