I am a studio teacher in a private school who has decided to stay at home with DD (9 months old). Because I have invested so many years researching about Early Childhood Approaches to art introduction and have loved to see my findings in practice for the last 6 years, I want to be able to continue offering children the opportunity to explore and use art mediums to investigate their surroundings and learn new things. I have been particularly influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach so I do not see art as an end but as a medium for children to construct knowledge. My DD will soon be a year old and I was wondering how many parents in the Bethesda/Chevy Chase/Kensington area would be interested in a very home like studio setting where their children as young as 1yr could come for an hour of structured time but open-ended activities. The main idea is for children to be exposed to different materials and techniques in an orderly manner but without having as a goal leaving the studio session with a finished piece.
I am an exhibiting artist and have a great well lighted studio in my basement. The part that I will be using with children is the sun room that faces Rock Creek Park. Any ideas on what you would like to see if I end up doing this? I am open to suggestions and would seriously consider opening my studio for these practice if I see that there is interested parents. Because my studio is not huge and children would need to come with an adult, each hour session will be open for 3 children at the time only. If you have suggestions or questions please post it here. |
| Sounds like a good idea! I'll love to see something like that but we are in Georgetown. We currently attend a music playgroup an I imagine it would be something similar but involving art. My advise is check for permits, you might need them even if parents/caregivers attend sessions with children. How much would you charge? would sessions would be one hour a week? My daughter and I are happy to attend the music playgroup for 1hr a week. Good Luck! |
