Dessert/sweets suggestions for dairy free diet

Anonymous
I am breastfeeding and due to my son's weight problem, my doctor has extended my dairy free diet for another month. I bought some dairy free ice cream and yogurt at Whole Foods but all that halloween candy is calling to me (I'm looking at you M&Ms and twix bars). She said I could have dairy if it's baked into it, so I could have a cookie but can't put butter on toast, if this makes sense. Any suggestions for candy and sweets I can reach for, esp when a chocolate craving strikes? I know Oreo's are dairy free but what else? Even though tootsie rolls have milk in them, can I consider that a baked product? I've been eating a lot of candy corn since I don't have anything else to satisfy the cravings but hope someone has some suggestions to help me get through the next month. Thanks!

frozen raspberries slightly defrosted with a dollop of cool whip is my go to sweet.

For a warm treat, bake an apple with margarine (non dairy) and sugar or honey and cinnamon.

Use Pam or margarine to lightly sautéed banana slices until browned. sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Rice Krispy treats.

Instead of margarine, try ghee. You can get it at Trader Joes. And coconut whipped cream is really good.

Ghee is clarified butter. Does that work for a dairy-free diet?

Sticky fingers baked goods. The Minimalist Baker has outstanding vegan recipes. The banana muffins are the best I've ever made.

Make a batch of the King Arthur gluten free brownies and use oil/margarine. They are crazy good!

This cake is glorious: http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/CHOCOLATE-OLIVE-OIL-CAKE-5551. Probably more work than it's worth it for a go-to snack, but excellent for a special occasion.

I also loved these when I was nursing: http://www.food.com/recipe/that-fabulous-tahini-cookie-315101. (They're damn fine even when I am not nursing, too, but the oats are good for supply. I recommend quartering the recipe; the amounts are for a commercial bakery.)

Here's the link to Trader Joe's vegan list: http://www.traderjoes.com/pdf/lists/list-vegan.pdf. The coconut milk and soymilk ice "creams" are both pretty good. This might also help: http://vegnews.com/articles/page.do?pageId=4487&catId=2. Good luck!

There are definitely vegan chocolate bars out there -- some of the really good dark chocolate is dairy free. Not sure which brands, sorry!
