Drawer microwave in the island.
We're still debating the whole microwave location... We can't have it over range because we have a powerful gas range that needs a proper hood. We can't have it in an upper cabinet because we don't have many. We don't want it on a counter because it takes up too much room. So for now it's either going in the island or in our walk in pantry. |
| I'm simple and old-fashion, I like it on the counter. I like being able to pull out the plate, realize it is way too hot, and let it slide on to the counter. Above the stove it is in the way if you are using the stove & I'm short and don't like lifting hot food above my head. The under the counter built in ones, you have to lean over or bend down, no counter to drop hot plate on. |

How about where it gets used most? We have it next to the cabinet where our tea/coffee supplies are, as we are heavy tea drinkers!
What do you most use the microwave for? Reheating food or cooking? |
| Depends upon the floor plan. Without an idea of what your kitchen looks like, how can you really expect a good response here! |
On the counter is terrible you want a built in look or risk being a college dorm |
Agree! Too bad it doesn't look good. Maybe built into a wall behind a counter like an appliance garage ( but without the dated accordian door) will be the new high-end solution. |
I'm super confused as to why you would need a microwave for tea. Do you microwave the water to warm it up? |

Apparently at knee height in the island. This boggles my mind.
I prefer counter with a tilt down cabinet door if you do feel the need to hide it. |
| Ours is built into a wall of cabinetry, like a wall oven. I love it! I always had countertop ones before and this is a huge improvement. (As for the too-hot thing, the door on this microwave opens downward and makes a perfectly flat surface. So I can put a hot plate on the open door.) |
| The best location and height for a microwave oven depends on you and the degree of kid-friendliness desired in the kitchen. Normally, 15 inches above countertop level is a good microwave height |
Are you answering your own thread? I find I prefer the microwave to be countertop or lower. Above the countertop and it's too high for me. |
The knee height would drive me insane. I would say counter or wall mount. |
| Can someone explain why drawer microwaves are SO much more expensive? It's pretty ridiculous. |
