If both parents have blue eyes the child is supposed to have blue eyes per what I have read. Are there any blue eyed couples out there with a green or brown eyes child?

Blue is dominant over green, so it is possible for two blue-eyed people to have either a blue-eyed or a green-eyed child, but not any other color.

What about blue vs. brown? Does brown always overpower blue? I'm sure we learned this in biology class but that was a looooooong time ago. |
If the brown-eyed parent carries the recessive gene for blue, the child can get blue, right? |
Anything is possible. I have blue eyes and DH has green. We have a brown eyed child (and yes, DH is the father). |
Did you look at the link above? It is an eyecolor calculator. |
Yes, two brown-eyed parents can have a blue-eyed child.

Brown is dominant (B) and blue is recessive (b). Each parent gives one gene and it takes two recessive genes to show the trait.
Parents with brown eyes can be BB or Bb. If both parents are Bb then they can end up each passing along a b ending up in a bb or Blue eyed child. I think the probability is 25% each pregnancy. If one parent is BB and the other parent is bb (blue eyed) then the kids would have brown eyes with Bb. They could later have blue eyed kids if their partner has bb or Bb. If you and your spouse each have a blue eyed parent then you know you are both Bb rather than BB. |
It is my understanding of genetics that two blue eyed parents can only have blue eyed children--double recessive. Green is a different gene. By contrast, two brown eyed parents can have a blue eyed child, because they can carry the recessive gene.
There are various websites where you can plug in the gene alleles and come up with the various options. |
where do hazel and green fit into this? the websites only calculate blue and brown. |
I think the definition of blue vs. gray vs, green vs. hazel can be murky. I call my eyes green, but I have had people call my eyes blue (I guess they are blue-green) and also hazel (which they have flecks, so I guess). There are lots of variations in between true blue and true brown. |
Right, that is what the link above shows. Two blue eyed people are pretty much going to have a 100% chance of having a blue eyed baby. |
I see green as a choice... |
How was this possible? Blue eyes are recessive to brown eyes. So a blue eyed parent is bb. Green eyes are also recessive. Thus, green eyes are also bb. So how can DC be Bb or BB when no dominant eye color could have been passed to him? Can someone please explain this? Am I off on this one? |
Who cares? Just be thankful your child can see. |
