503 errors, query exceptions

I have been noticing these for the last day or so. If you need any user feedback on these, reply and I will try to fill in details. The most common is 503

The last error I got was different:

java.sql.SQLException: Table 'jforum_topics' is read only

Query being executed when exception was thrown:

UPDATE jforum_topics SET topic_views = topic_views + 1 WHERE topic_id = 383327

Thanks. I've been seeing the jforum_topics read-only error as well. I've been working on troubleshooting it this morning. Yesterday, the database went haywire with a bunch of errors I'd never seen before. I'm not sure what is going on, but I'm looking into it.

If you get more of these errors, please post a note.

I don't think anyone was hacking, but maybe a spambot or indexer went a little crazy. Since I had to did into the database yesterday to try to figure out the cause of those problems, I went ahead and upgraded. I also introduced a couple of performance enhancements that I discovered along the way. I think this morning's problem was simply the result of one program not starting up correctly, so restarting that fixed it. Now, it seems to me the site is much faster than normal. I hope that's not just my imagination and that it lasts.

I haven't seen that SQL exception since the AM. But I will let you know if it comes back. Also in case posts begin to be deleted on screen, line by line, I will dutifully record the event on video in portrait mode.

FYI I was receiving the 503 error today. From about 3-6. I tried from both my iPad and laptop (I was beginning to thank you banished me!)

Yes, there were a lot of database problems for about three hours today. Fixed now.

Just more data for you - me too on the 503 errors through about 8pm eastern.

No problems since.

It was the same issue, though I thought it was cleared up a bit earlier than that. I have two more servers on order to solve the database cluster issues. So, by mid-December I hope to see significant performance improvements.

No. I'm not comfortable using cloud services for DCUM. I have my own db cluster, but it is under powered. That's going to change.

And I say this as someone who started hyperventilating a little - just a little - when I saw that 503 error page.

Don't get me wrong. I can stop at any time. I just worry about you, you know. The ad revenue and all that... I know ypu have kids and... It's just... Pleas don't take DCUM away!!
