Does anyone know the cost of the afternoon preschool program? Thank you in advance.

Having done that program, I'd say it's not worth it. It was a horrible experience.

Thank you for the honest response!! Did you do something in addition to PEP that was beneficial?? My son needs more than the 1/2 day but the CAPP program is not an appropriate fit.. I feel like I'm at a loss for options..

What are the soecific concerns?

Social, speech (he is using 2 word phrases now but only started talking 2 months ago), behavioral (recently, within last 2 weeks starting pushing kids with no provoking etc), very rigid. He will be 4 in January. He has done great in his PEP class.

I just looked at LEAP online and it looks great. Will they take a child with autism diagnosis?
Anonymous
It depends on your child's needs. Very mild they may consider. It is a student teaching program so they are trying to make a good fit for the adult students. It's a great program but not right for all kids.

They are graduate students working toward their masters as SLPs. They are not trying to make a "good fit," rather they screen kids if their behavioral and/or speech needs are too great to participate in this particular preschool program. It's been the policy that they don't accept kids on the spectrum, but there are usually some kids with ASD every year.

I would definitely try LEAP in any case.

You may want to try a social skills group like at Basic Concepts:

What about preschool at Maddux?
Anonymous
Maddux does not accept preschoolers with autism. I was told, by Maddux, that the preschool program is not appropriate for a child with an IEP. Once they are older, not preschool age, then they work with children with autism.

Thank you 20:49. I have never heard of this group before. I will contact them also!

I would ask the parent coordinator at your pep program. Many times they keep a list of preschools that pep families used and were happy with.

Where do you live OP?

I would contact Maddux as well. It's better to get this information directly.
