| I heard they might be changing the boundaries for Arlington elementary schools after the new elementary school opens from what was approved before. Something about Nottingham projected to still be really over capacity? Does anyone know anything about this? |
That's all the information that has been released. |
| I heard that some people recently received letters re changed school assignments. I can't remember what the situation was - if they were being moved from the new elementary to Nottingham, or vice versa. These people lived in Tara/Leeway. Sorry, that's probably not very helpful. |
Helpful in the sense that it re-affirms that the school board is completely botching this. I also heard that they're making a contingency plan because it looks like the new school won't open on time? |
What?!? |
I don't know, that's why I'm trying to find out. I confess, I was eavesdropping on a conversation at school pick-up and heard one of the moms say she heard the school board was planning to use the Wilson School as a back-up location until the new school opens if it doesn't happen on time. Can you imagine people having to drive all the way from north west Arlington into Rosslyn during rush hour every morning to take their kids to school? I hope this isn't true! |
I hope that's not true. It also doesn't make any sense when they have Reed so much closer. I thought NES was on schedule. |
Unless they slate Reed for redevelopment into the new middle school. |
| If NES doesn't open in time, why wouldn't the re-zoning just shift a year or until it's complete? |
|
New School kids are close to Madison Center, too, but I don't think that school belongs to APS anymore.
Whichever location gets chosen for secondary seats won't start construction right away The planning takes at least a year. |
If they're thinking the delay will only be a couple of months into the school year, it's probably easier for the system overall to find a temporary place for the NES kids for those couple of months than deal with a full year of massively overcrowded elementary schools while NES sits empty for seven months. |
| Has anyone been told by APS that NES won't open on schedule or is this all speculation? Also, is it officially Discovery? |
| The School Board has said that some of the boundaries for the new ES might change because Nottingham will still be overcrowded even after the new school opens. They will make the decision "by February" before Kindergarten Information Night. |
+1 Why shift kids before the actual school is ready? |
| shifting elementary kids to a "temporary" school, even for a couple months, seems extremely disruptive to a successful educational year. |
