map-p -- just got our scores at the teacher conference but no idea what it means!

got a score of 150 for our k child. the teacher just gave us the score but we had to end the conference before we could ask what that meant. assuming it's unremarkable (=average) since she didn't comment on it. can anyone tell us what their child scored and what it means?

You can ask for the the percentile. As a reference, 205 for a first grader is 99%. I am going to guess in the 180's or 190's for K is around a 99%.

I think this document applies to MAP-P as well:
http://legacysupport.nwea.org/sites/www.nwea.org/files/resources/NWEA%202011%20Norms%20Report_01.17.2012_2.pdf
Go down to page 64. 150 is 70% for K.

I've been told that MCPS does not have percentages for MAP-P or MAP-M.

Just fyi -- we don't have our kid's score yet, but the K teacher told us (before they took the test) that she thought the MAP-P for Kindergarteners was totally inappropriate because so much of it is just getting them to have facility using the mouse on the computer. She said she watches them sometimes click something other than what they intended to, and that just having to deal with it distracts them from thinking about the question they're answering. So, just saying I wouldn't put much stock in the result for a kid that age.

My first grader (who is a math nut) took it recently and scored 210. She said the hardest question was 9x8.

That's probably because you're an uninvolved parent who trolls anonymous message boards. *golf clap*
