Years ago I had an allergic reaction to OTC cream soon was scared to put anything down there and doc prescribed me fluconizole (sp?) which is the generic for Diflucan. I took one pill yesterday and was instructed to take a second pill 72 hours later. Anyone with experience with this med, how long until I get relief from this itching? It's so uncomfortable and I'm miserable. The idea of having to put pants on tomorrow is unappealing. I have hydrocortisone cream but because of my sensitive skin am scared to put anything down there, but have read that fluconizole/diflucan doesn't work well on its own.
Would appreciate any feedback from people who have BTDT. Thanks!! |
| Diflucan works great for me, usually in about 23-36 hours. I'm allergic to one of the main ingredients in creams, including hydrocortisone cream. Try to be patient, even if uncomfortable. |
| Thank you!! As long as I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. |

Diflucan, just a single dose, has been a miracle cure for me. I do also use a topical cream though, which gives some immediate relief so I can't say exactly when the diflucan kicks in, but it's fast.
Hang in there. |
| A warm sitz bath, with a bit of epsom salt might provide temporary relief. |
| Miracle cure for me too. Usually gone within a day or 2. I also had a bad reaction to creams, never again! |
| Put plain yogurt in the area. Seriously |
| Probiotic up there over night. Works really well. |
Yogurt has sugar which can encourage yeast growth. Steroids aren't good either especially for the vaginal region. There are non-steroidal anti-itch products both prescription and over the counter. |
| Use a topical cream and for the next week abstain for all sugars - even carbs and dairy that just feed the yeast. It will go away but I find that diet and the topical cream provide relief before the pill does. |
That probably works if you aren't allergic or sensitive to the creams. |
Not all yogurt. This came from my gyno... |
| Eat lots of yogurt. Like 3-4 servings per day |
+1. Plain yogurt (unsweetened) is the only thing that ever got rid of a yeast infection for me. I either soaked a tampon and left it in overnight or injected some with one of those baby medicine syringes. Repeated for two or three nights. Miracle. |
OP here - it was so much better today but just woke with itching again - seems to be much worse at night.
I know there's a prescription cream that's different than the OTC but I just hate to risk another allergic reaction. I will try to be patient and see what the next day or so brings...I have one more dose to take. I did read that some people felt that the generic wasn't as effective as Diflucan. i am taking a probiotic but am scared to put yogurt down there because my skin is just so sensitive...have had to take steroids twice for terrible reactions to creams. Thanks all for your feedback. |
