I'm thinking about a 4-5 day getaway in early November (nothing like last minute planning!) someplace warmer than here. Any thoughts on where you would stay in Puerto Rico with a 3.5yo -- I'm thinking of a resort-type hotel, preferably on the luxury side (eg someplace that would have a concierge to help line up excursions or a babysitter for a night or two, maybe even kids programs), but could go in other directions if they were interesting and kid-friendly.
I'm also open to other destinations, preferably no more than a 3 flight. Had thought about Charleston/Kiawah but the whole darned city appears to be booked the next few weekends. Has anyone done Miami with kids? (Not quite ready for the Mouse yet.) |
| OP typo: 3-hour flight, that is... |

Have heard good things about the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar as far as families go...
I like the Florida gulf coast & nature stuff. Marco Island (Marriott or Hilton or Ocean Resort), Naples has several really high end kid-club type places (Naples beach Hotel, La Playa or 2 Ritzes) and Sanibel-Captiva has the wildlife refuge, shelling, and is low rise with walkable restaurants if you rent a little place near Andy Rosse Lane. |

Sarasota - nice beaches, walkable downtown, quiet.
Bermuda - direct flight, nice resorts. |
| Disney cruise, maybe? |

If you have a hefty budget, the Dorado Beach Ritz Carlton Reserve is great. The facilities and the beach are the best in Puerto Rico but you will pay sky-high prices.
My father-in-law has been a member of the beach club there for about 40 years, so we are allowed to use the facilities. They have several great pools, a beautiful beach that is wonderful for small children (I have a 3yo), an incredible pool/ play area for little ones on the Dorado Beach East side, a pool with fountains, water slides and things to climb on, and the spa is excellent. I don't know about activities for the kids because we just spend time with my in-laws when we are there. A cheaper option would be to rent a place on vrbo.com. Search for places in Dorado, Puerto Rico that say they are located in Dorado Beach East and make sure the house has a golf cart included in the price. I think when you rent a house in dorado beach east, you can get a weeklong membership to use all the hotel's facilities, so while it's not a bargain, it's still cheaper than staying in the hotel. |

Caribbean will be much warmer than Florida or Bermuda in November. Water will be too cold in the latter that time of year to really enjoy the beach.
November can be rainy, but it'll be warm enough in PR. Check the Caribe Hilton, Marriott Condado, the Ritz Carlton Reserve in Dorado if you want to go more upscale, or the Ritz Carlton in Isla Verde. Caribe Hilton and Ritz Dorado will have the calmer, safer beaches for the 3.5 yo. |
| Naples FL has a great children's museum, botanical gardens with a kids area, and beach (though maybe a bit cool by Nov) |
| I would definitely rent a jeep for a couple of days as nothing is close by to where you are staying (other then beach and restUrants). There are tons of great restaurants a short stroll from your time share. Most are on the main drag. Salt & Pepper is fun for breakfast; there's a good pizza place nearby and a fancy Italian restaurant that's great. Do a scuba tour on the boat that docks near your hotel. |
