Good Fragrance Free Lotion

My DS is scratching chunks of skin out of his chest and neck. Aquafor and Eucerin are not working. Anything else out there that might help with the winter, dry skin itchies?

Unfortunately I've never seen anything as good as Aquaphor (the tub of goo, not the lotion). We bathe our son daily and slather that stuff immediately afterward. If he doesn't get a bath, the stuff doesn't work though. It has to lock in the moisture from the bath.

OP here. We use the Aquafor body wash for babies and we also slather on the goo after the bath but it is just not cutting it. He has some red spots that he gets every winter. I know it is just dry itchy skin but nothing is helping.

We've been using something called Vanicream. It was recommended for eczema and seems to work well for DD. No dyes or fragrance. I got it on Drugstore.com or Amazon -- not sure which. Cost about $20 for a big tub.

You might also want to ask your ped about using hydrocortizone cream (1%) for flare ups. That's what we do for the eczema -- 2x a day for a few days and it's gone for about 3 weeks. Not sure if it would work for just plain dry skin, though.

I've been using Aveeno fragrance free lotion that is for super dry skin. After about a week using it every day after DS's bath his skin went from dry and patchy to smooth and soft and there is no scent to it at all!

I use Cetaphil body wash, and then CeraVe lotion (available OTC at drugstores). I had tried Aquaphor, Aveeno, Eucerin and nothing was solving the eczema problem. My dermatologist recommended this one, and (fingers crossed) its working so far. I much prefer using it than putting steroids on his skin.

I think its just a matter of trying all the different lotions till you hit one that works for you.

Coconut oil! It works wonder on my DD... we keep her eczema in full control thanks to it.

I use it along with Aquaphor and body cream mornings and evenings.

It is really fatty (more than any other oil). You can get it online and probably at Whole Food but you get get big bottle for a couple of dollars in any South Asian store.
Since it solidifies, I just put the bottle in hot water in the sink during the bath.
