UCSD vs. University of San Diego

Can anyone comment on the "flavors" of these two schools? For some reason, DC has a love for the city of San Diego (why, I'm not sure. We were there for five days when he was ten...) and says he wants to explore schools there.

Are you Catholic?

UCSD is an excellent university that is (obviously) part of the public UC system. The University of San Diego is a smaller, private school and I think it is Catholic. UCSD has a better reputation overall.

The academic comparable that you might be more familiar with are UCSD is on par with Georgia Tech and USD is on par with St. Louis University.

UCSD is #3 in the UC system and some argue #1 for STEM. The campus is in La Jolla

Very different schools. One is a large public university with strong academics, but everything else that comes with large public universities--like a focus on research with some great graduate programs. This can mean that your education is what you make of it.

My cousin went to USD. It's mostly a small Catholic liberal arts school (although it does have a law school and a few graduate programs). She is not at all Catholic and went there because she wanted to party at the beach. There seemed to be a lot of wealthy people there who were like minded. However, I'm sure you could get a great education there if you don't get too distracted.
