Meeting a friend for pasta on the red line

I'm meeting a friend for dinner on Tuesday. He recently had dental surgery and can only have pasta or soup. He's coming from downtown; I'm coming from Bethesda via the red line. Is there a pasta place somewhere around TenleyTown or Van Ness where we can meet? Thanks.

Maggiano's is at Friendship Hts. A chain, but the food is decent and plenty of pasta.
