My entire family is getting together for the first time in a long time next weekend. I recently had a baby and still haven't lost the baby weight. My siblings told me that we are doing white shirts and jeans for adults. After trying on all of my white shirt and jean combinations, I look terrible in everything. I have some super cute white shirts, but they don't look right on my post-partum body and all of my button down shirts gap open because of my breastfeeding chest.
We probably won't all get together for a few years, so these family pictures are going to stick around for a while. Any suggestions for a white shirt cut or style that will work for a post-baby mama? |
| Does it have to be a button-down? |
| Do you have any white maternity shirts that will work? If not, maybe buy one. Something with ruching on the sides will be flattering. You could also try wearing spanx? Good luck! |
| It doesn't have to be button-down, just something nice. I don't have any white maternity shirts, but I wouldn't be opposed to wearing one. I just don't want to cringe everytime I see this picture for the next few years. |

No.
Pick a color. Its hard on photographers. |
| I thought this trend was done already, OP? Any chance you can rally them into just dressing nicely and not in this uniform that will end up on http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/ |
| Saw it on Modern Family |
| We did this "dress code" for an extended family photo shoot a few years ago and it turned out terrific. The consistent outfits (and the white shirts) draw your eyes to the faces instead of the clothing. I was also recently post-partum. I wore a white tank top (a nursing tank to be precise) and a pre-pregnancy white shirt with only a few buttons buttoned below my chest. After the photos came back we found out my dad had cancer, losing him soon after. We are so happy to have those photographs. Good luck! |
| Gah. I hate when everyone wears the same color shirt. I do understand it's easier to coordinate. Saw various white sweaters at Loft. Try there. |
| Thanks for the suggestions! I'm not a fan of the white shirt idea (I could hide this PP body with a nice black dress with cute accessories), but my sibling is paying for the session and is very insistant upon this dress code. @20:17, I'm glad that your pictures turned out well. Hopefully ours do, too. |
| What about the kind that has a v neck and a shirred/wrap waist? A common style in nursing tops that will hide the post-baby stomach and flatter your chest. Wear nude spanx under it to pull everything in, plus dark jeans in whatever cut flatters you most. . You'll look good. Make your hair a littler more voluminous than usual for proportion to your body, great jewelry, a little extra makeup for the camera. Know your angles, too. GL! |

Ugh, this is so 1995. They actually wore all white on Modern Family and smeared mud all over themselves. Will you all be doing that?
A mix of similar colors/shades, etc. in neutrals looks SO much better and so much less dated. Like, have everyone pick from the colors blue, gray, and white, with brown accessories (belt, shoes), and dress in layers (like a shirt under a cardigan or vest, or a scarf. Then not everyone is matching, but is coordinated so that you see the faces, not the outfits. I disagree that white highlights the faces. It washes people out. Some nice examples online that could give you brother some ideas. I recently bought a shirt at Macy's (INC?) that is cut on the bias. It's got a knit back and blouse front, buttons down about half way with pockets and is very flattering. It comes in lots of colors, but I got a white one and a black one. http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/inc-international-concepts-plus-size-split-neck-cap-sleeve-top?ID=1530211&CategoryID=39720&LinkType=#fn=DEPARTMENT_TYPE%3DTops%26sp%3D1%26spc%3D125%26ruleId%3D%26slotId%3D12 |

Seriously try this top. It's my favorite pooch disguising shirt with a v neck that always makes me feel skinnier. It comes in white!! I have it in 2 different colors. |
I agree, you should definitely do something like this. I'm also PP and have definitely quite a bit to lose (waiting til I finish pumping) to lose all of this extra weight once and for all. I would definitely get my hair done at a salon (blow out day before) so I feel better about the pic. (I recently had a family pic taken at home just for our DD's preschoool. I looked so tired and I didn't have time to really put on much make-up.) |
| For sure get the nordstrom one. |
