Do you thank other parents for chaperoning field trips?

Just curious about whether people ever say "thank you" to parents who chaperone school field trips. Without the parent chaperones, those trips could not happen, and sometimes watching other people's children can be...challenging. Also curious whether people ever say "thank you" to the teachers for making those field trips happen.

I do for the bigger field trips. I've been thanked by teachers but never parents.

Not in the least! The kids went to pumpkin patch this week, and it struck me that it's potentially a lot of work to watch children who not only aren't yours but are likely unknown to you. Some parents like to go on field trips and some don't.

There are so many parents that want to chaperone in DC's classroom, that it is rare to be picked for any field trip. Even when we are paying to chaperone. The teachers will actually say that they want to give all parents a chance to chaperone!

So, no. I don't want to thank them, I want to slap them silly!

I attend field trips all the time, because my child asks me to. I certainly don't expect those hags to thank me.

I attend field trips all the time, because my child asks me to. I certainly don't expect those hags to thank me.

I hope you have nothing to do with my child's school. So lacking in basic human respect.

I don't even know which parents go on the field trips. I just know that I never go.

Huge parent involvement at my kids' school so there are always way more volunteers than chaperone slots. I think that those that do get to chaperone are considered fortunate so the opposite seems to be the case. Parents that chaperone are the ones that are thankful.

Ditto. There's practically a one to one ratio of chaperones at our school. And I'm pretty sure our $40 field trip fee "makes the trip happen." At our school, the teacher doesn't even chaperone a group...just the parents. The teachers practically had a day off during the field trip to the zoo...didn't see them until it was time to get on the bus.

This. Except the fee.

I try to go on them all. When I can't, my son is usually paired with his best friend, whose mom I know. I do text her and thank her. Mostly because she's sending me text pics.

I come from a family of teachers, and I'm pretty sure they all include chaperones on their list of classroom volunteers to receive some sort of thank you card/gift at the end of year parties and such.
