| So is it now between Barcroft or Nottingham becoming a choice school? |
Thanks for the update, PP! Why don't they create a single immersion lottery, and expand Spanish immersion for more seats at Carlin Springs (so one immersion location). That's the parcel that has so much green space, fields and well, space. Two of the same option programs doesn't make much sense. |
Apparently so! |
|
Barcroft to fleet, not going to happen. Too far and no available seats. The current Henry families would have a fit. Alcova will go to fleet and that makes sense.
There are not enough seats in south Arlington schools to eliminate two neighborhood schools. This is really all about more seats for north Arlington schools. No one cares about seats in south Arlington. |
There's no money to expand Carlin Springs right now. |
Carlin Springs Elementary School sits on one of the biggest parcels of land we have in Arlington. It's surrounded by fields (including sports fields) and green spaces. You could have a bigger outdoor classroom there. The building is newer, and nice, like Kenmore. |
| PP barcroft poster. Neither neighborhood should be split up like a pie. |
Untrue. Fleet is coming online because south needs more seats the general debate seems to be whether it’s better for the south to have more neighborhood seats even if it means option schools are further away, or whether the south benefits from having as many option schools as possible. |
| Please. It’s not N vs S. Whichever community gets the option gets divided up. Blame the change in option admissions policies. Blame Key/ASFS. But don’t turn this N/S. Welcome to the party. No one wants to lose their school. Barcroft isn’t any different from Nottingham. That’s why this whole thing is a bad idea. Maybe they should’ve made Fleet & Reed options. But SB already sold out to those neighborhoods. They got theirs. Good luck getting yours. But don’t cry victim and blame the north. |
It will be happening all over the county. |
Exactly. The only way in N Arlington to not blow up entire school communities is to make Reed the option school. I very much wish that were happening and am furious at how this has come together. Day 1 when NW is overcrowded they better put a trailer park at Reed. I don’t care that it is being built for 725. You take Nottingham away, it will be the school that has he room for trailers. |
No, McKinkey will be the school for trailers. Too bad they don't get that. |
Reed has much more land for them. And people are starting to complain about it being off limits as an option school. Before when everyone thought Tuckahoe would be the option school, Reed was safe. Tuckahoe parents wouldn’t want to upset their own people who know they are going to Reed. Now that it may be Nottingham, the gloves are off. |
Facilities Optimization study already says no trailers for Reed. |
Starting to complain? People have been complaining about it since day one of the process, including Tuckahoe people back in the day (it was one of the criticisms of Tuckahoe at the time, that they were throwing their own community members under the bus to save themselves). |
