I hate Trump, but unfortunately, he can be good at pointing things out in his opponents that cut deep. There is a reason that one stuck. And yeah, I see a bunch of people babying their kids as though the rest of the world isn’t running circles around us. I don’t care about the people immediately around my kids. I care about everyone else out there. While you choose to teach your child that they can’t handle hard things, I’m teaching mine that they can do more than they ever thought possible. Going out of your comfort zone and digging deep, whether it be mentally or physically, is how you learn what you’re made of. |
PP doesn’t care as long as her mediocre kids get to relax. |
This post is coming from a place of wealth and privilege. |
Do you still have kids IN FCPS?? Kids want breaks, but they also need a continuous, constant schedule for education. I am not a year-round person, but the school year calendar should not be nearly 10 months long to accommodate each and every break this school board seems willing to accommodate. This school calendar simply has not delivered any consistency, especially not in the 5-day week category. We joke at my house, "It's a 5 day week? How are we going to survive???" Kids need to be in school, period. Over the 17 years we have been in FCPS, the calendar has become worse and worse. Earlier start dates, later last days of school. There has to be a healthy balance, and what we have is not it. Having the majority of 5-day weeks after Spring Break occurs at a time when kids (and frankly faculty and staff) are checked out. No one is locked in from Mid May to Mid June. And especially not after Memorial Day. |
You sound like a total ass. Even more of an ass than our deadbeat school board members and that’s saying a lot. |

+1 My teen loves days off, but even he thinks this year’s schedule is too much. Zero momentum. |
| My high schooler is on his way to a 5 on his AP exams thanks to the break. We love it!!!! |

I'm so glad you were able to get a ton of tutoring in on those days off!! Wish I could afford that for my children! |
| It’s the golden age of striving for sure. Efforts in equity have resulted in my average kids with a little extra parental support becoming the tippy top in their pyramid. A little bit goes a long way when most kids barely read a single book through their whole k-12 time in FCPS. I love it. Then inconsistent scheduling only helps in lowering the bar and expectations as most kids just barely meet the standards. |
That Calendar is awful, but hey the complainers who don’t like being with their elementary kids are happy. We are being ruled by complainers on social media rather than surveys and thinking things through. |
Yup. You’ve solved it. Parents go to work because they don’t like being with their young kids. Not because they like feeding, clothing, and housing those kids. Thanks Sherlock for solving that mystery. |
If you are not making it because of 4 days off, I do honestly feel for you, but summer camps are pricey too. |
You are embarrassing yourself. I am far from a bro. I am a woman who works with your child once they have graduated from high school. I bet big money your kids are on track to be the type of anxiety- and depression-riddled young adults I encounter on a daily basis. Just like their neurotic parents. |
